Tyred Out!

Monday, 28 May 2012

Evening all!

I just popped on to share a card I made before I went to Australia and forgot to show - today is an appropriate day to show it cos the Monaco Grand Prix was on today!

I was in Australia with my brother who celebrated his birthday while we were there and as we went to the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne I thought I'd make it to suit that.

Here's my card:

I tried to model it a current Formula One Pirelli tyre, so my large Go Kreate circle dies came in handy!

The image is from the Paper Shelter's Giraffe set and I coloured the car red as we are both Ferrari fans!  So the stripe on the tyre was made red to match (which incidently means that this would be a super-soft tyre! :P )
I coloured the image with the following Copics: R29,27,24, YR24,23,21, E39,37,35, 100, C9,7,5,3 And Prisma pencils: Crimson red, Dark brown, White and Black.

(He's got some serious flat spots going on there!)

I hand drew and cut out the wording with a craft knife to follow the Pirelli logo - I was making this card when I should've been packing so if I had more time I might've got it a bit neater!
The "Colin" is die cut using the "Tina thinks you're cute" Sizzlets alphabet dies.  I finished off with some nail heads.

And as an added wee surprise, as we were Down Under, so as it would be the right way up at home, it did this!

I'd like to enter this in the following challenges:

The Black & White Days

Friday, 18 May 2012

Morning all!

It's hard to believe another friday is here and it's time for another challenge on the Alphabet Challenge Blog!
We had lots of gorgeous entries for Hilde's Garden theme.  It was Mari's turn to choose the next theme and she chose....

H for Handmade Flowers!!

What an excellent challenge!!  There are so many ways to make flowers from diecuts to material to crochet and so many more!  I can't wait to see all the entries this fortnight!

So here's my card

The image is "Violet" by Saturated Canary.  I've coloured her with my copics and I used all my C range of grey's from 00 to 10 and the 100 black as well as a black prisma pencil.  It was a real learning experience to colour an image just using greys, it really makes you think about light and shade, a good way to practice colouring!

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the papers are an old Stampin' Up! set, please correct me if I'm wrong!  The black bubbly paper just behind the image is from my stash and had no name on it.  I diecut it with a Spellbinder die.  The ribbon is also from my stash.  The sentiment on the Stampin' Up! punched shape is by Wild Rose Studio.  The pearls are from Wild Orchid Crafts - I wasn't sure which colour to use out of the pack, so I just used them all!

My handmade flowers were made by cutting circles out of organza - 3 large, 3 medium and 3 small.  I lit a candle and started singeing around the cirles.  When I got near the end I accidently singed a bit too far into the circle and it sort of shrivled up!  I quite liked the effect, so I started going back over all the circles and singeing them all through the circles, not just around the edges.  I then stitched 3 different sized circles together and finished off the front middle with a black swarovski bead and repeated for the other 2 flowers.
I'm not sure if this technique will work for all types of organza as this one has the silver sparkly stripes through it which sort of stopped the organza from totally shrivelling up.  I'm gonna have fun trying it out though!
**If you do try this technique though, please be very careful with the candle - it is a naked flame and you are sticking material right into it so it can catch fire.  Just make sure you keep a close eye on the material and if you see a flame starting on it blow it out quickly.  And make sure you are at an appropriate area with a heat-proof mat.**

The inside is a continuation from the front.

And that's my card!

The rest of the DT have made some stunning creations so head on over to the Alphabet Challenge Blog to see them and join in yourself!

I'd like to enter my card in the following challenges:

WOYWW 154

Thursday, 17 May 2012

Phew!  That was a bit of a fright!  My computer just died on me!  The battery was getting lower and lower and I had it plugged in but it wouldn't charge.  PANIC!!!  I had to just let it die and hope that it would start to charge again.  Which it did!  Thankfully!  I've now done a scan and a few other checks and all seems well again.  I just recently got myself an external hard drive but I haven't used it yet - I think that will have to be the next thing on my agenda, to back-up my files!

Anyway, onto the business of the day which I'm just fitting in by the skin of my teeth!  I would've been earlier but for the above!
I didn't get to take part last week as I went to my parents house straight after work and was there until late as it was the 17th anniversary of the death of my little brother.  Always a strange and difficult day.  I still can't believe it's been 17 years!
But I did get a little parcel last Wednesday which I've got showing on my desk this week - I got my WOYWW badge!  Thanks Julia!  I shall wear it with pride!  I love that moustache tape btw!!

I've also got an image coloured and cut out and the copics I used to colour it with.
I haven't been hugely crafty since my last post, there just always seems to be something else going on that I have to stick my nose into!
I was suppsed to be going to Dublin on Saturday to see Coronation Street The Musical (I don't even watch Coronation Street!!), but we got word today that it has been postponed, so at least I've got Saturday to catch up on a few things as I'm only just starting to feel relatively well after having several different bugs over the past while.
Maybe I'll back up my computer files!

I think it'll be tomorrow now before I get to have a nosey around some of the other desks of the world that are linked up to WOYWW on Julia's blog.  Always nice to have something to look forward to!

Thanks for looking!

Another Friday!

Friday, 4 May 2012

Here we are again on another Friday and this one is in to May!  The year is flying by!
And since we've flown through another fortnight it means that there's another challenge up on the Alphabet Challenge Blog.
It was the lovely Hilde's turn to pick a theme and as we're up to G she chose...

G for Garden!

So here's my card

The image is by Sugar Nellie, Sweet Art Ebony called Flowers which I've had for years and don't know if I've ever acutally used it before!
I coloured her with my copics: Skin; E21,13,00,0000,R20. Trousers; V09,06,04 Top & hat; R59,39,37.  Wattering can; RV34,32,10 Flower; YR24,21,14.  Hair; E57,55,53,51
Then I used nesties to cut her out.

The papers are also oldies that were rather large snippets!  I'm afraid I don't know who they're made by as the name was previously cut off.

The butterfly is from a chipboard sheet from Stampin' Up!  I drew a design on it and then filled in each section with glue, covering with glitter and letting it dry before I moved on to the next colour of glitter.  It takes a while to do this if you are using lots of colours!  I then added a few Swarovski crystals to bling it up even more!!

It's an easel card and the top of it is a nested flower shapeability.  I drew around the die and cut out the shape for the mat.

The wee tag is also from a Stampin' Up! sheet and I coated it with glue and attached it to some of the paper before trimming the excess and sanding the edges.  The sentiment is from Wild Rose Studios and the ribbon is from my stash.

So take yourself over to the Alphabet Challenge Blog and join in the fun with us!

I'd like to enter this card in the following challenges:

Moving Along With The Times; Summer Sunshine
The Paper Shelter; Sketch

Quick Card

Thursday, 3 May 2012

Morning everyone!

I think this is the fastest card I've ever made!  It usually takes me a full evening (at least!) to make a card but I made this one in under an hour! Go me!  I must admit though that I did have the image already coloured.  I must do a few more pre-coloured images!

I realised that it was a friends birthday in a couple of days and I didn't want to be late with the card (like I usually am!) so got it made pronto!  I took it to work with me to send out with the post and it was only when I got there that I realised I only had 2nd class stamps, so I hope she did get it on time after my effort!

Anyway, here's the card:

I used this weeks Sketch Saturday sketch.  The image is LOTV "Milly Just For You" which I coloured with promarkers: Skin; Sunkissed pink, Oatmeal, Blush, Pastel pink. Hair; Umber, Walnut, Cocoa, Cinnamon.  Dress; Burgundy, Hot pink, Lipstick red. T-shirt; Marine, Turquoise, Green.  Flower; Gold, Mustard, Daffodil Bloom.  Leaf; Olive green, Marsh green, Pale citrus.
It's been cut out with Spellbinder dies.

The papers are MME, Stella & Rose, Gertie papers.  I used a cuttlebug embossing folder for the wee bit sticking out above the image and some pearls from Wild Orchid Crafts below the image.  The sentiment is a LOTV one which I stamped onto a spellbinder die-cut and then I drew some faux stitching around it.

The inside sort of mirrors the front, and uses up the leftover bits of the paper nicely!

I'd like to enter this card in the following challenges:

Sketch Saturday; Sketch
Crafty Catz Weekly Challenge; Anything goes
DYSU Challenge; Circles
Joanna Sheen Challenge; Flower Power
My Mums Craft Shop Challenge; Embossing
Papertake Weekly; Anything goes

WOYWW 152

Wednesday, 2 May 2012

Evening all!

Just a quick post today for WOYWW as I've now got a horrible cold and I want to go to bed!

Here's my desk:

So I've got some leftovers from a couple of cards I was making, a list of ingredients for one of the cards and a couple of photo's.  I work in my family business which is a quarry and was asked to make a retirement card for one of the men who worked in the quarry for many, many years.  He's in the dump-truck so I was gonna see if I could incorporate it into the card.
I've also got a pile of dies that need to be put away and an empty DS tape roll which really should be in the bin by now!

So if you fancy a nosey at a lot more desks then Julia's blog is where to find them.
